What is FINTRAC?
The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRA) is an independent agency of the Government of Canada responsible for the collection, analysis, assessment and disclosure of information in order to assist in the detection, prevention and deterrence of money laundering and financing of terrorist activities in Canada and abroad.

Why do I need to show my ID?
The new legislation requires financial institutions and real estate agencies to formally identify customers and clients who conduct transactions such as purchasing real estate and depositing funds associated with real estate transactions.  This new legislations also requires the real estate office to keep records which will be treated confidentially as required by the Personal Information Protection Act.  The Fintrac information you provide is for the exclusive use of Macdonald Realty.

Why are you asking me for ID?  You already know who I am!
Macdonald Realty is required by law to follow the procedures outlined by FINTRAC for confirming the identification of everyone who buys and sells real estate.  Please understand that we are only complying with the laws of Canada and your cooperation is very much appreciated.
